Ventilation Guidelines
A Practical Summary of Recommended Minimums- For a typical 30-inch gas range: ~ 300-400 CFM is a good minimum baseline. (But more is better if you cook heavily, grill/broil often, or have high BTU burners.)
- For a 36-inch or higher output cooktop (especially gas): ~ 600 CFM or more is frequently recommended.
- For electric or induction cooktop (less combustion, less grease/steam): lower CFM might suffice — e.g., 200-400 CFM for a standard 30" width.
- If you install the hood higher than typical (e.g., >30″ above surface), you should add roughly 100 CFM for every additional 3″ above the recommended height in some guidelines.
