PRODUCT STORAGE POLICY - PRE-INSTALATION
1. Purpose
This policy defines acceptable storage conditions and responsibilities for Elias Woodwork & Manufacturing Ltd. ("Elias") products after delivery and prior to installation. Proper storage is critical to maintaining product quality, dimensional stability, and finish integrity.
2. Scope
This policy applies to all Elias‑manufactured products, including but not limited to cabinet boxes, doors, drawer boxes, panels, and related components, when stored:
- At customer or dealer locations
- In garages, outbuildings, job sites, or storage containers
- In any environment not directly controlled.
3. General Storage Principle
Elias products are manufactured for interior, climate‑controlled use only. Products are not designed to withstand prolonged exposure to uncontrolled temperature or humidity conditions prior to installation.
Once product leaves Elias’s facility, storage conditions become the responsibility of the receiving party unless otherwise agreed to in writing.
4. Approved Storage Conditions (Recommended)
To maintain warranty eligibility and product integrity, Elias strongly recommends the following storage conditions:
- Temperature: 15–25°C (60–77°F)
- Relative Humidity: 35–55%
- Environment:
- Enclosed, dry, and weather‑tight space
- Heated and/or air‑conditioned as required to maintain stability
- Protected from direct sunlight, standing water, and condensation
- Handling & Placement:
- Store products flat or upright as designed
- Keep off concrete floors using pallets or spacers
- Do not stack beyond safe limits
- Keep packaging intact until acclimation or installation
5. Non‑Controlled Storage Environments (Use With Caution)
The following environments are considered high risk and are not recommended for product storage:
- Unheated or uncooled garages
- Sheds or outbuildings
- Sea cans / shipping containers
- Construction sites prior to building enclosure
Risks in these environments include:
- Excessive heat or cold cycling
- Elevated or fluctuating humidity
- Condensation forming inside packaging
- Warping, swelling, joint movement, or finish failure
If such storage cannot be avoided, the receiving party must:
- Limit storage duration to the shortest time possible
- Ensure product remains fully wrapped and elevated
- Avoid direct contact with exterior walls or metal surfaces
- Monitor for visible moisture or condensation
6. Acclimation Prior to Installation
Before installation, all Elias products must be:
- Moved into a climate‑controlled interior space
- Allowed to acclimate for a minimum of 72 hours (or longer if conditions were previously extreme)
- Installed only after the building is enclosed and HVAC systems are operational
Failure to properly acclimate product may result in movement or finish issues after installation.
7. Exclusions & Limitations
Elias is not responsible for defects or performance issues arising from:
- Storage in uncontrolled or outdoor environments
- Exposure to excessive heat, cold, or humidity
- Condensation or moisture ingress during storage
- Job‑site damage, handling damage, or improper stacking
These conditions may void applicable warranties.
8. Inspection & Reporting
Receiving parties should:
- Inspect product promptly upon delivery
- Report visible damage immediately
- Report suspected storage‑related issues before installation
Installation of product constitutes acceptance of condition.
9. Policy Acknowledgement
By accepting delivery of Elias products, the receiving party acknowledges this storage policy and assumes responsibility for maintaining appropriate conditions prior to installation.
For questions or clarification, please contact Elias Woodwork & Manufacturing Ltd. before storage or installation decisions are made.
WARPING | BOWING | TWISTING
WARPING:
The warping tolerance for all products up to 15” wide or up to 48” tall is 1/8” or 3.2mm. The warping tolerance for doors up to 24” wide or up to 60” tall is 1/4” or 6.4 mm. For doors exceeding 24” in width or 60” in height will carry no warranty for warping. For all five-piece wood solid or plywood panel doors, it is recommended (and our standard) to add a center rail for all doors wider than 24” or taller than 48”, to reduce potential warping but does not add warranty coverage when included. Solid slab doors exceeding 10” in width, must have battens installed in order to prevent warping. Failure to attach battens upon receipt will void product warranty for warping.
TWISTING:
The twist tolerance for all products measured up to 48” with the grain is 1/8” or 3.2mm. The twist tolerance is 3/16” or 4.8mm for all products up to 60” in height. All products exceeding 60” will not carry warranty for twisting.
BOWING:
Wood Products | Any doors that are ordered taller than 48” without a center rail will have no warranty against bowing. (Bowing refers to the swelling of a wood component as a result of extreme moisture absorption.) Mitered cabinet doors and drawer fronts have no warranty against bowing from the absorption of excess moisture due to the nature of their assembly. Our screw-and-dowel miter assembly method, though it has visible plugs, is recommended for areas with extreme dry or humid conditions to best protect against bowing.
RTF Products | Any doors up to 24” in height have a maximum bow tolerance of 1/16” or 1.6mm; for doors from 24”-48” in height, 1/8” or 3.2mm, for doors 48”-72” in height, ¼” or 6.4mm and all doors over 72” are not warranted for bowing.
TOLERANCES
SIZE:
Our size tolerance on all products is +/- 1/32” or 1mm in height or width. Additionally, all drawer boxes have a +/- 1/8” or 3mm tolerance for depth.
COLOR:
Please review the Wood Grades section of our catalogue or website prior to ordering to understand the different options available and their recommended finishes. To maintain wood color consistency within a project, it is recommended to order all products at the same time. If it is not possible, please make a note on your add-on order that you are concerned about color consistency between two separate orders and where a custom sample has been provided, please send a sample of the original project to help ensure color consistency. However, understanding the nature of natural wood products including changes to color as the product ages, we cannot warrant matching wood grain color, wood grain patterns and finished colors from order to the next.
WOOD MOLDING
Elias Woodwork is proud to offer the capability to produce more than 3000 different profiles for wood molding as we are a mill-run facility, with stocked lumber in various widths and lengths. In order to achieve the best yields from the lifts of lumber we purchase, you will find that the molding may have up to 3” cracks on the ends, and this is reflected in the lineal foot price. We do not warranty molding with cracks on the ends less than 3” long.
We do not offer cut-to-size molding or molding only in standard lengths, so please ensure you specify on your order what lengths of useable material is required. For example, if you require a full 8’ length, please make sure to order a 10’ long piece, keeping in mind that lifts of lumber are typically sold in even-foot lengths.
OVERAGES:
Small quantity mill-runs for less than 100’ are subject to overages, of which all extra footage run will be included in your invoice. For example, if two 10-foot lengths are ordered for a total of 20 feet, but the only material available is 8 feet long, three 8-foot lengths or 24 total feet will be provided, resulting in a 17% overage. The quantity of 24 feet will be included on your invoice.
Large quantity mill-runs can expect overages of up to 15%; and the total quantity will be included on your invoice.
WARPING or BOWING:
Depending on your profile ordered, some bowing may be expected. Please make allowance in your install of wide moldings for both bowing and warping. Contact your CSR for assistance.
