What The ‘Matrix’ Can Do For You...
At Elias Woodwork, we have continually received feedback from our customers on the demands placed on them in their respective industry. Whether their products are for kitchens, vanities, RV’s, or architectural millwork, the greatest concern always seems to be the time constraints on receiving the outsourced wood components for the projects, whether it be cabinet doors, dovetail drawer boxes, moldings, or even radius doors.
Great effort has gone into researching, planning, and ultimately revising our production methods, organization and priorities. This has allowed us to create an ordering system that permits you to be more in control of the lead times of the outsourced components we can produce for you.
Situations can arise when a company like yours needs to send several packages from New York to Seattle where the arrival time is crucial to your company receiving a high profile project worth $150,000.00 to your company. Your delivery choices are LTL freight and a courier. Comparing the two, the LTL freight charges would be $100.00 but the packages would get to your client too late for your company to be considered for the project.
By using an overnight courier, guaranteed delivery by 9:00am in Seattle, you may ensure your company’s bid in the project, but at a cost of $900.00. The gap between prices is substantial, but may become insignificant if it means acquiring the new project.
Similar trade-offs and choices are present in almost every aspect day to day in our industry and within OUR company as well as YOURS.
Focus Is Always On TIME
- The TIME waiting for those outsourced products you need to complete a project.
- The TIME it takes to provide a quote and supply a sufficient lead TIME.
- The TIME it takes to schedule work within your company.
Occasionally the time factor is complicated more by the fact that your clients insist on install and/or delivery dates that do not adapt to any of your vendor’s lead time schedules. Your client may even offer to pay extra if your company will alter it’s schedule to complete their project when they want it. The ‘Matrix’ allows you to begin the quoting cycle with the knowledge that you have the ability to accommodate your clients requests, simply by adjusting your quote to accommodate the assessed service charge for your outsourced products. Even more importantly, it allows you to add a surcharge to your client for the efforts in providing them a completed project, in the highest quality when THEY want it finished.
